‘Nawaz Sharif might not return anytime soon’

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) party leaders have denied that Nawaz Sharif would be making an appearance on the political scene anytime soon despite reports.

According to local media reports, two PML-N leaders said that Nawaz Sharif’s return to Pakistan is still not certain. They acknowledged that party leaders agreed on Sharif coming back as soon as possible, but beyond that, they had no further information.

Both party officials stated that the party has not formally acknowledged or refuted the aforementioned claim; this fact alone does not give the rumour any weight. One of the party leaders, who is from central Punjab, said that there may be a benefit to making this claim at this time because it diverts focus away from PTI’s growing support for Nawaz’s return and boosts the party workers’ low morale.

According to MNA Waheed Alam Khan, no decision has been made about Nawaz Sharif’s return.

A senior lawmaker and MNA Syed Javeed Hussain stated that he was not aware of any plans including Nawaz Sharif’s coming back. Mian Javed Latif and Azma Bukhari announced at a press conference on Monday that Nawaz Sharif will be returning to Pakistan in September.

Similar assertions have already been made by Mian Javeed Latif multiple times, and each time the party disassociated itself from his remarks. Federal Minister for Information Marrium Aurangzeb did not react to Mian Javed Latif’s remarks on Nawaz Sharif returning home when she was asked about this.
