Nawaz Sharif, Tareen can’t benefit from SC review Bill, says Law minister

    Federal Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarar has said that Nawaz Sharif or Jahangir Tareen cannot benefit from the Supreme Court Review of Orders and Judgment Act.

    Azam Nazir Tarar said that Nawaz Sharif and Jahangir Tareen have exercised the right of review against their sentences, so they cannot benefit.

    He said that the decision of the court in Article 184 (3) was considered to be the first and last, there is no scope for second review in our law. He added that under the new law, relief will be available to the common man under the appeal of Article 184 (3).

    The law minister said that the President, who used to send back every bill, has approved the review law.

    A gazette notification has been issued for the implementation of the Supreme Court Review of Judgments and Order Act 2023.

    Under the new law, review appeals can be filed within 60 days on decisions under 184 (3), according to the new law, the appeal will be heard by a larger bench than the bench giving the decision. The scope of the review petition will now be the same as the appeal, in the past, the review petition of the decision was heard by the same bench which gave that decision.
