During a pivotal meeting of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), the party’s legal team provided a thorough update to party leader Nawaz Sharif in light of the Supreme Court’s decision to invalidate amendments to accountability laws.
The legal team, consisting of former Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar, advocate Amjad Pervez, and PML-N Deputy Secretary General Attaullah Tarar, granted Nawaz Sharif legal approval for his return to Pakistan.
After the meeting, Azam Tarar, a distinguished jurist, informed the media that upon his return, Nawaz would face all court cases. He also took a swipe at Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan, asserting that Nawaz Sharif would not evade justice and would appear in court confidently, anticipating exoneration.
Azam Tarar emphasized transparency in the legal proceedings, assuring that there would be open hearings, and the truth would prevail.
Furthermore, he criticized certain judges for allegedly violating their oath to the Constitution and harming Pakistan through their political inclinations.
Former Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Attaullah Tarar reaffirmed that Nawaz’s planned return on October 21 would not be affected by the Supreme Court’s decision.
Nawaz has appointed Azam Tarar to oversee the legal procedures for his seamless return, and Advocate Irfan Qadir, former Attorney General, and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister, will also be part of the legal team.
This legal team will decide on Nawaz’s bail, with a preference for the Islamabad High Court (IHC) given the pending appeal and bail case from when Nawaz left for the UK for medical treatment four years ago.
Notably, the services of lawyer Khawaja Haris have been discarded for follow-up actions, and the final composition of the legal team will be determined upon Shehbaz’s return to Lahore from London.
