Nawaz Sharif has said that the negative comments about Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif that were being attributed to him were incorrect.

In a tweet on Thursday, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) supremo expressed the hope that the sincere and tireless efforts of PM Shehbaz would bear fruit.

Showing confidence in his brother, Nawaz Sharif further stated in his tweet that Shehbaz Sharif would steer Pakistan out of the mess under the most challenging circumstances created by Imran Khan.

The clarification of Nawaz Sharif has come amid indications of an internal rift within the PML-N.

There have also been reports in the media that Nawaz Sharif was upset after the defeat in by-polls in Punjab on 20 seats. Former chief minister Punjab and PM Shehbaz’s son Hamza Shehbaz was later summoned to London by the party supremo for an explanation over the loss, media had reported.

Later, when a hike in prices of petroleum products occurred, Maryam Nawaz tweeted that Nawaz Sharif had strongly opposed the decision of a price hike. She had stated that Nawaz was not in favour of price hikes and putting the burden upon the masses. She also said that Nawaz had refused to be part of the difficult decision and left the meeting.

PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz had also endorsed the demand of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan for fresh elections during a rally on May 19 in Sargodha. Maryam was of the view that opting for fresh elections was wiser to opt than burdening the people with price hikes.

Another PML-N leader, Abid Sher Ali, also criticized PM Shehbaz and Finance Minister Miftah Ismail for their anti-people policies. Abid urged the finance minister to think of the people already agonized due to inflated rates of electricity as well as poverty.
