NEPRA reduces electricity price for agricultural consumers

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has made electricity cheaper by Rs3.60 per unit for agricultural consumers under the Kisan Package which will be applicable to all companies including K-Electric.

According to the notification issued by NEPRA the basic tariff for agricultural consumers has been fixed at Rs13 per unit by making electricity cheaper which was earlier Rs16.60. In this regard, the Power Division submitted an application to NEPRA for tariff reduction on December 14.

According to NEPRA the reduction in the per unit price of electricity for agricultural consumers will be applicable to agricultural consumers of K-Electric including discos. The price of electricity per unit for agricultural consumers will be implemented from the bills of November 2022 which will result in a relief of Rs28 billion to the consumers.

NEPRA has said that the money will be paid by the federal government in the form of a subsidy for cheap electricity for agricultural consumers.

Earlier NEPRA had said in a statement that the public hearing had been completed on the petition filed by the federal government regarding the uniform tariff of discos and K-Electric. NEPRA Chairman Tauseef H Farooqui presided over the public hearing which was also attended by NEPRA members Engineer Rafique Ahmed Sheikh, Engineer Maqsood Anwar Khan and Engineer Mutahar Niaz Rana.

It was informed in the statement that the federal government had submitted a request to make the tariff of K-Electric equal with discos, while for discos an average increase of Rs3.30 per unit was approved in the fourth quarter adjustment of the financial year 2021-22.

NEPRA also said that the federal government also wanted to approve a uniform increase for K-Electric with regard to the uniform tariffs.
