No-confidence motion: NA speaker calls session on March 25

National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser has called a session of the lower house of the parliament to debate over the no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Imran Khan on March 25.

The NA session will be held at 11:00am next Friday. Media reports citing sources have stated that the session had been convened after consultation between the government and NA Secretariat officials and legal experts.

The agenda of the session includes Fateha for deceased Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf lawmaker Haji Khayal Zaman.

Meanwhile, the 14-day deadline, as delineated in the constitution, to convene the session of the lower house on the opposition’s requisition will expire on March 21.

Opposition leaders in a joint press conference on Saturday said that if the resolution for a no-confidence vote was not presented in the National Assembly on Monday, they would stage a sit-in in the parliament.

Pakistan People’s Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto stated during the press conference that the proceeding on the no-confidence motion should start by Monday, and if it didn’t, he stated that “I will ask the members of the opposition and my party to not leave the hall and then we will see how the government holds the OIC”.

However, the joint opposition on Saturday evening backtracked on its statement issued earlier in the day – threatening to disrupt the upcoming Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) meeting in Islamabad – and pledged that they would not “allow in any way” the country’s internal political crisis to affect the moot of Islamic countries.
