Nuclear weapons should never be used, US-Chinese presidents agree

US President Joe Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping have agreed that nuclear weapons should never be used anywhere including Ukraine.

According to the statement of the White House, President Biden told the Chinese counterpart that the US will continue to compete vigorously with China but this competition should never turn into a dispute.

At the beginning of the meeting, the two presidents shook hands during which Biden said that superpowers have a responsibility to show the world that they can handle their differences and prevent competition from turning into conflict.

According to a White House statement President Biden objected to China’s increasingly aggressive actions against Taiwan. President Biden’s meeting with his Chinese counterpart lasted for three hours. The US president told his counterpart that the world should encourage North Korea to take a responsible approach.

Chinese President Xi said that China was deeply concerned about the situation in Ukraine.

Chinese Foreign Ministry said in a statement that President Xi said that Chinese officials not only looked forward to the resumption of talks between Ukraine and Russia but also supported it.

Addressing the press conference after the meeting US President said that there was no need for a cold war with China. He also said that there was no imminent attempt on the part of China to invade Taiwan. He also said that he was not certain how much influence Beijing had on North Korea’s provocations.

While Chinese Foreign Ministry has stated in a statement that Taiwan’s question was at the very core of China’s core interests. It also stated that China didn’t seek to change the existing international order and had no intention to challenge or displace the US.
