Nusrat Bhutto remembered

PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari says “Mother of Democracy” sacrificed entire family to restore democracy

The 10th death anniversary of former Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) chairperson Begum Nusrat Bhutto was commemorated at the Bhutto House in Naudero on Saturday.

But the senior leadership of the PPP did not participate in a gathering held to pay rich tributes to Bhutto for her sacrifices for democracy in the country.

However, PPP’s Larkana district office-bearers and workers attended the gathering where the Holy Quran was recited in connection with her death anniversary.

MNA Nasiba Channa, Jameel Soomro, political secretary to PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Aijaz Laghari, Punhal Luhar, Dr Sakina Gaad, Zaheer Narejo and others were present.

They paid rich tributes to the “Mother of Democracy” and eulogised her services for the cause of restoration of democracy in the country when her husband was behind the bars.

Later, free public meal (langar) was distributed among the participants of the gathering.

In his message, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that Bhutto sacrificed her entire family for the cause of democracy and such examples in human history are rare to find. He said Bhutto united democratic forces in the country after the martyrdom of her husband Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and led a people’s movement against the dictatorial regime of Zia-ul-Haq.

He said that Bhutto was a symbol of democracy who remained a staunch supporter of democratic rights.
