OIC meeting: Mobile services not to be shut down in capital

Interior Minister says capital to observe holiday on Saturday and Monday

Federal Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed stated on Friday that mobile services in the capital would not be shut down for three days owing to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

While speaking to media the minister said, “Many media persons have come to me and raised the concern and on their request, we are not shutting down the mobile service for three days.”

He said that all the concerned departments were on a single page. The minister added that media representatives had expressed concerns that due to the blockage of mobile services, they would not be able to communicate with their respective countries.

He also said that due to the meeting of OIC’s foreign ministers, the Interior Ministry and Islamabad administration had decided that there would be a local holiday in Islamabad on Saturday and Monday, but the decision of the Secretariat’s holiday would be taken by the Cabinet Division.

The Interior Minister also said that all the security agencies were in touch with each other and there would be special protocols for the security of the guests.

The meeting will be attended by delegations and foreign ministers of 57 OIC countries and the OIC conference on Afghanistan will play a historic role, he added.

“We had a conference on Afghanistan 40 years ago. Today, 40 years later, this step was taken by Imran Khan’s government and it is happening in the parliament,” said the interior minister.

Islamabad is to host the 17th meeting of OIC’s foreign ministers on December 19.

Saudi Arabia, as the current chair of the Islamic Summit, has convened a special meeting in Pakistan on December 17, 2021, to discuss the humanitarian situation in Afghanistan.
