Pakistani Olympian Arshad Nadeem finished fifth in the men’s javelin throw final at the World Athletics Championships in Oregon, United States.

On Friday, Arshad Nadeem qualified for the final after throwing 81.71 metres in his group B qualifying round, placing ninth overall.

Despite not being at his peak fitness, Nadeem set a season best in the final with a throw of 86.16 metres.

After the Tokyo Olympics, Arshad competed in his first significant international competition in the World Athletics Championship. His qualification for the World Athletics Championships makes him the first Pakistani to do so.

India’s Neeraj Chopra got the silver medal with a throw of 88.13m.

Chopra also complemented Arshad Nadeem and said, “Arshad and I spoke after the contest. I complimented him on a job well done. He responded that he had elbow problems. I also congratulated him on a fantastic throw, a tremendous recovery from his injury, and a commendable javelin throw over 86 metres.”

As the first Pakistani athlete to appear in the final of any track and field event in Olympic history, the 25-year-old javelin thrower from Pakistan gained fame when he qualified for the Tokyo Olympics final.
