Opposition drubbed in LB polls: Khattak

Farrukh says PTI government enjoys full support of allies, will complete term

Defense Minister Pervez Khattak said on Tuesday that the opposition parties suffered the worst defeat in the local bodies’ elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

While talking to media, Khattak said that the PTI is far ahead of other parties when it came to vote bank. “We are the topper and other parties lag behind,” he claimed. “There are parties that claim that the PTI is over but look at how many seats it won,” he said while noting that the PMLN, PPP and JI won two to three seats “so I can say that these parties have no more role in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa”, he added.

Khattak said that the local bodies’ election was very difficult as compared to the general election because it was not party-centered and there were a lot of independent candidates, therefore the PTI was planning even more carefully. “I have warned my party’s members not to take this election easy,” he said. Regarding growing inflation, the defense minister said that inflation was rising not only in Pakistan but internationally.

He remarked that if inflation meant Imran Khan was incompetent it also meant that the presidents and prime ministers of other countries with inflation were incompetent as well. “All those people who criticize him (PM) for inflation, do they have a solution to this?” he asked while saying that the opposition could criticize PTI for its policies but it should also offer alternatives as well.

He referred to the claims of the opposition as propaganda and said that despite inflation, the government was still performing very well, providing facilities like Ehsaas programme, health card etc. He dared the opposition to bring a no-confidence motion.

Meanwhile, Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Farrukh Habib on Tuesday said the PTI government enjoyed full support of its allies and would complete its constitutional term with their support. “There is no threat to Prime Minister Imran Khan from the opposition’s no-confidence move and he would again form the government after winning the next general elections,” he said while addressing a press conference with Pervez Khattak.
