Oscars 2023: Why important for Pakistan, where to watch and what to anticipate

This year, the Oscar Awards hold a significance for Pakistanis.

Reason?

Joyland, a Pakistani film, is among the nominees for award. The short film may have encountered difficulties at home, but it was a hit with the international world from the start, and it is now the first film from the country to be nominated for an Oscar. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced the shortlists for the forthcoming 95th Academy Award. Joyland is one of 15 films that have made the cut for the Best International Feature Film award and will now move on to the final round of nominees.

The Oscars are here at last. On March 12, 2023, in the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles, the famous award ceremony will take place. ABC will broadcast it live. On March 13, at 5:30 a.m., Pakistani views can watch the show online.

According to People Magazine, Jimmy Kimmel will serve as the ceremony’s host this year. He is performing as an emcee for the third time. Previously, he served as host in 2017 and 2018. Wanda Sykes, Regina Hall, and Amy Schumer served as the hosts the year before.

Deepika Padukone, Dwayne Johnson, Michael B. Jordan, Riz Ahmed, Emily Blunt, Glenn Close, Troy Kotsur, Dwayne Johnson, Jennifer Connelly, Samuel L. Jackson, Melissa McCarthy, Zoe Saldana, Donnie Yen, Jonathan Majors, and Questlove are among this year’s Oscar presenters.

Performers

Except for Lady Gaga, all of this year’s Oscar nominees for best original song have confirmed their attendance at the March 12 ceremony. According to Variety, all nominated songs are sung at the Oscars event, as is customary. Rihanna (Lift Me Up), Sofia Carson and Diane Warren (Applause), Stephanie Hsu, David Byrne, and Son Lux (This Is a Life), and Rahul Sipligunj and Kaala Bhairava are among the performers this year (Naatu Naatu).
