PAC summons former CJ Saqib Nisar regarding Dam Fund

The parliament’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has summoned former Supreme Court chief justice (CJ) Mian Saqib Nisar to give an explanation pertaining to the Diamer-Bhasha Dam Fund that was found during him term.

The fund was launched in July 2018, which later was joined by former prime minister Imran Khan. The fund was aimed at collecting money for the Diamer-Bhasha and Mohmand dams.

On Tuesday, in a session of the PAC presided over by Chairman Noor Alam Khan, a summons was issued to the former CJ and the Supreme Court registrar for provision of details regarding the fund.

Khan also referred to Nisar as a “controversial figure” at one point during the session.

During the session, PAC member and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz MNA Barjees Tahir claimed that Rs14bn were spent on ads while only Rs9bn was collected.

He however stated that this was not a threat to the judges.

Moreover, Senator Mushahid Hussain Syed called for an inquiry into the funds.
