The first semi-final of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 will be played between Pakistan and New Zealand on Wednesday at the Sydney cricket ground.

Pakistan and New Zealand are expected to go unchanged while both teams will fight hard to qualify for the final on Sunday.

All eyes will be on Captain Babar Azam to gain his form on the biggest stage as he was the only player from Pakistan to come for a net practice session on an optional training day.

One of the biggest upsets of the competition occurred when South Africa, who was dominating Group 1, was crushed by the underdog Netherlands in Adelaide.

This provided Pakistan and Bangladesh the opportunity to guarantee their spots in the semifinals and Pakistan grabbed it with both hands.

The best player for Pakistan was Shaheen Afridi, who took four wickets to keep Bangladesh to 127/8 in 20 overs. As a response, Pakistan successfully chased down the target with 5 wickets left.

The Sydney Cricket Ground is expected to have clear skies on Wednesday for what might be a fascinating contrast between two evenly-matched teams that have some excellent speed bowling.

The event, according to some, is reminiscent of the 1992 World Cup for 50-over cricket in Australia, where Pakistan barely made it to the final four before defeating tournament favourites New Zealand in the semifinals and England in the tournament final.

The second semifinal will be played between India and England in Adelaide on Thursday.
