Pakistan Bar Council’s (PBC) Chairman Executive Committee Hassan Raza Pasha has issued a statement on behalf of the PBC. He said that it is deeply concerned about the decision of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to delay the election beyond the 90-day limit.
The Bar Council of Pakistan (PBC) has condemned the Election Commission of Pakistan’s decision not to hold elections within 90 days, terming it a violation of the Constitution of Pakistan and the law.
Pakistan Bar Council Chairman Haroon Rasheed and Chairman Executive Committee Hassan Raza Pasha have issued a statement condemning the postponement of the general elections.
A statement issued by the Pakistan Bar Council said that the Election Commission should hold elections within the stipulated time as per the constitution.
The notification said that under the constitution, the Election Commission is bound to hold elections within 90 days, free and fair elections should be held on time.
Bar Vice Chairman Haroon Rasheed has said that delaying the elections is against the law due to delimitation.
The Bar Council of Pakistan (PBC) has urged the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to complete the delimitation process at the earliest and ensure free and fair elections within 90 days.
Final publication of delimitation on December 14 is in violation of Article 224:
Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Raza Rabbani has said that the final publication of delimitation by the Election Commission on December 14 is a violation of Article 224. Article 224-II says that elections have to be held within 90 days of the dissolution of the Assembly.
Raza Rabbani said that the shortage of staff for delimitation can be met, the shortage of staff can be met by taking staff from the federal and provincial governments.
