Pakistan’s struggle in the ongoing Asian Hockey Champions Trophy in Chennai, India persisted as they played to a 1-1 draw against defending champions Korea on Friday, as reported by Radio Pakistan.
Following their earlier 3-1 defeat against Malaysia on Thursday, Abdul Hanan Shahid managed to score a lone field goal for Pakistan in the 18th minute. Korea’s Jeon Young equalized the match with a penalty stroke in the 53rd minute, leading to a 1-1 tie.
Both teams put forth considerable effort but couldn’t secure another goal, ultimately concluding the match with a 1-1 draw.
Pakistan is scheduled to face Japan on Sunday, China on Monday, and their traditional rival India on the 9th of the month in their upcoming matches. Pakistan and India have each secured the Asian Champions Trophy title three times, making them the most successful teams in the event.
In the 2021 edition, Korea clinched the title by defeating Japan in a penalty shootout during the final in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The 2023 Asian Hockey Champions Trophy began on August 3, with the tournament’s culmination set for August 12.
