Pakistan pays tribute to Abdul Sattar Edhi on 10th death anniversary

Pakistan marked the 10th death anniversary of renowned humanitarian Abdul Sattar Edhi on Tuesday, with President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif paying tribute to his extraordinary legacy of compassion and public service.

In his message, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif described Edhi as a symbol of humanity, selflessness, and unwavering dedication to serving others. He said Edhi’s lifelong commitment to helping vulnerable communities remains one of the brightest chapters in Pakistan’s social history and continues to inspire millions.

The prime minister noted that Edhi demonstrated how a single individual can bring meaningful change to society through kindness, determination, and sincere service. He added that Edhi’s work promoted compassion, tolerance, and social harmony, making him a lasting role model for the country’s younger generations.

President Asif Ali Zardari also honored the late philanthropist, calling him an enduring example of humanitarian service. He praised Edhi for devoting his entire life to supporting the poor, the sick, and the homeless without discrimination.

The president highlighted one of Edhi’s greatest achievements—the establishment of the world’s largest volunteer ambulance network—which has saved countless lives and continues to serve people across Pakistan. Abdul Sattar Edhi, who founded the Edhi Foundation, earned worldwide recognition for his tireless efforts to provide healthcare, emergency assistance, shelter, and welfare services to those in need, regardless of their background or beliefs.
