Pakistan qualifies for semi-final after beating Bangladesh

Pakistan beat Bangladesh by five wickets in an all-important game to qualify for the semifinals of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022.

On Sunday, the match between the two teams was effectively a quarterfinal as a result of South Africa’s loss to the Netherlands.

Bangladesh had set Pakistan a target of 128 runs, with a spot in the semi-finals on the line on Sunday; Pakistan limited Bangladesh to a modest total thanks to fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi’s four wickets.

After Bangladesh decided to bat first, Shaheen, who produced his T20 best figures of 4-22, struck early for Pakistan when the left-arm quick sent back Liton Das for 10.

Shadab Khan dropped the left-handed batsman on 11 at short extra, giving Najmul Hossain Shanto a second chance, which he took advantage of with 54.

Soumya scored 20 runs off of 17 before Shadab’s ball cost him his wicket while attempting a reverse paddle sweep. Shadab then struck again, albeit in a contentious manner, on the following delivery.

The third umpire supported the on-field ruling even though Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan appealed the decision and saw that the ball looked to have touched the bat before hitting the pad on replays.

Pakistan, India, England, and New Zealand have qualified for the semifinals.
