Pakistan Railways has implemented a 5% increase in train fares, effective from Tuesday. This fare hike comes in the wake of rising petroleum prices in the country.

According to official notifications, the fare increase applies to all goods vehicles and express trains. However, there will be no fare hike for shuttle and passenger trains covering distances of up to 250 km.

Railway authorities attribute the fare increase to the recent surge in petroleum product prices. This marks a 5% fare rise following a 20% increase by the Ministry of Railways in the past month and a half.

In unrelated news, Barrister Hina Gilani, a member of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) legal wing, was arrested at Islamabad Airport while attempting to board a flight to Dubai. She was detained by Islamabad Police, with an FIR reportedly filed at the CTD police station. This incident has garnered attention and condemnation from legal professionals and PTI members, with calls for action against lawlessness by Islamabad Police.
