Following the confirmation of two cases in Islamabad, government hospitals have begun establishing isolation wards in preparation for the potential spread of the monkeypox (mpox) virus.
According to the directives of the Sindh Health Department, the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) and Dr. Ruth Km Pfau Civil Hospital have established distinct isolation wards for men and women, each with ten beds.
There has not yet been a single case of the virus reported at Civil Hospital, according to MS Dr. Shahid Rasool. He continued by saying that programs for patient education and staff training have been set up, and staff members are receiving all necessary supplies, such as hand sanitizers, gloves, masks, and gowns.
JPMC Executive Director Dr. Shahid Rasool said, “God forbid if cases increase, the number of beds can be increased to 40.”
According to Azra Pechuho, minister of health, anybody who comes into contact with monkeypox victims must be isolated and closely watched. She added that since monkeypox screening kits are not accessible in Sindh, samples can be sent to the NIH or elsewhere. “Patients may be admitted to the Institute of Infectious Diseases,” she stated.
However, according to ICCBS Professor Dr. Raza Shah, there is no vaccination and no treatment for monkeypox. Like Covid-19, it is a viral illness that necessitates extreme caution, he continued.
In addition, he said that although monkeypox was incurable, patients should increase their intake of fruits and vegetables, water, and vitamin C to strengthen their immune systems.
