Pakistan and India will square off on Wednesday in Chennai, India, as part of the ongoing Asian Hockey Champions Trophy.
The Green Shirts must win the game to advance to the semi-finals. India, on the other hand, has already secured a place in the final four.
Pakistan will also advance to the semifinals if Japan fails to defeat China in the day’s opening match.
Pakistan will also benefit from Korea’s loss to Malaysia, but if Japan defeats China, qualification for the semifinals may come down to goal differential.
Pakistan has five points after four games and is presently in fourth place in the standings.
The most successful teams in the competition are Pakistan and India, who have each taken home three Asian Hockey Champions Trophies.
In the 2021 final in Dhaka, Bangladesh, Korea defeated Japan on penalties to win the championship.
The top four teams from the round-robin stage, which involves all six teams playing five matches apiece, will advance to the semifinals.
The final will take place the day after the last four matches on August 11.
