Panel consists of Fawad Khan, Fatima Bhutto, and Bilal Lashari to decide Pakistan’s Oscar nomination

The members of the panel chosen by the Pakistani Academy Selection Committee (PASC) to select Pakistan’s Best Foreign Language Film submission at the 2024 Oscars have been made public.

The committee, headed by Chairman Mo Naqvi, has a talented and diverse group of people from Pakistan’s media and entertainment sector.

Fawad Khan and Ahmed Ali Akbar, two well-known actors, are among the newly announced committee members. Both Fawad and Ahmed have a stellar reputation as actors, with the former having won the prestigious Lux Style and Filmfare awards.

The group also includes distinguished filmmakers Bilal Lashari and Saim Sadiq as well as renowned author and Bailey Prize nominee Fatima Bhutto.

The committee has also enlisted multifaceted artist Nadia Afghan, event director, producer, and activist Frieha Altaf, renowned filmmaker and co-founder of the Documentary Association of Pakistan Haya Fatima, award-winning documentary filmmaker, journalist, and cultural critic Madeeha Syed, and award-winning producer, director, and editor Mehreen Jabbar to choose Pakistan’s official Oscar entry.

The acclaimed movie Joyland, which also won the Cannes Jury Award at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival, served as Pakistan’s official submission for the Oscars Best Foreign Language Film category last year, in 2022.

The movie also received a lot of praise and attention on various platforms, reflecting Pakistan’s burgeoning film industry on a global scale.
