Former Punjab chief minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) president Chaudhry Parvez Elahi has been granted bail in a money laundering case.
A special court in Lahore heard the bail application of Parvez Elahi, where Rana Intizar Advocate argued on behalf of PTI President.
Later, the court granted bail to Parvez Elahi in the money laundering case.
It may be recalled that on June 21, the District Court of Lahore rejected the request for physical remand of Chaudhry Parvez Elahi, who was arrested again in the money laundering case, and sent him to jail on judicial remand.
A day earlier, Parvez Elahi was granted bail in a case of illegal recruitment, but he could not be released from jail as orders for his release were not conveyed to the jail administration.
On the other hand, soon after Elahi was granted bail, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) registered another case of money laundering against him. The FIA accused Parvez Elahi of being involved in money laundering through a front man and registered a case against his son Monis Elahi and three others.
On June 21, as soon as Parvez Elahi was released in the case of illegal recruitment in the Punjab Assembly, the FIA again arrested him in the money laundering case and presented him in the district court and requested for his physical remand, but the court rejected the request for physical remand and sent him to jail on judicial remand.
PTI president Chaudhry Parvez Elahi was arrested on June 1 by a team of anti-corruption establishment and police after a week-long siege of his residence. According to ACE, Parvez Elahi was wanted in a case related to abuse of power and embezzlement of development funds.
On June 2, a local court in Lahore acquitted Chaudhry Parvez Elahi of the corruption case in the case of alleged corruption and abuse of power in development projects, while the police re-arrested him in the second case.
On June 4, a local court in Lahore had sent Chaudhry Parvez Elahi and Punjab Assembly Secretary Rai Mumtaz to judicial remand for 14 days in a case of illegal appointments.
