Traffic fine dispute in Muzaffarabad ends dramatically as coach falls into Jhelum River

A passenger coach was driven into the Jhelum River in Muzaffarabad, Azad Kashmir, after the vehicle was issued a Rs5,000 traffic challan, police said on Monday.

According to police officials, the passenger coach was fined for violating traffic laws. After the challan was issued, passengers were asked to leave the bus and a police officer boarded the vehicle to take it to the bus terminal for impoundment procedures.

Police stated that while returning after the passengers had been evacuated, the driver allegedly drove the coach into the river.

Authorities further said that both the driver and the police officer jumped out of the vehicle moments before it plunged into the Jhelum River, successfully saving their lives.

Following the incident, transport drivers staged a protest at Supreme Court Chowk against the issuance of the traffic challan.

Police have launched further investigation into the incident.
