US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin on Tuesday in his meeting with his Chinese counterpart raised concerns about Chinese military aircraft’s dangerous behaviour.
A Meeting of officials took place on the sidelines of an ASEAN gathering in Cambodia.
Pentagon Spokesman Brigadier General Pat Ryder in a statement stated that the meeting discussed the importance of consistent communication on minimizing strategic risk and improving operational safety.
As per Ryder, Austin expressed concern over the PLA (China’s People’s Liberation Army) aircraft’s increased risky activity in the Indo-Pacific region, raising the possibility of an accident.
Earlier in June a Chinese fighter jet riskily approached an Australian military surveillance plane in the South China Sea region.
After Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan, the tension between the two states had risen.
A senior US defence official stated that Austin and Wei had a lengthy conversation in Taiwan and also discussed setting up some of the procedures that had been suspended during Pelosi’s visit in the following months.
The official also said, “There’s an expectation that there will be some restart of some of the mechanisms that have been frozen for the last six months.”
