Perpetrators will be given exemplary punishment: PM

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday promised that exemplary punishment will be given to the perpetrators of the Karachi University suicide blast, in which four people, including three Chinese nationals, were killed. During his visit to the Chinese Embassy to convey his condolences over the death of Chinese nationals, Shehbaz said, “I want to assure you on my behalf, on behalf of the government of Pakistan and the people of Pakistan, that we will hunt down the perpetrators, culprits, killers. We will not rest until they are caught and given exemplary punishment.”

The prime minister met Chinese Charge’d Affaires Pang Chunxue and sympathised with the government and the people of China, as well as the bereaved families. Accompanied by Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah, Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal and Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, he assured a swift probe into the tragedy to take the culprits to task. He instructed the authorities concerned to provide foolproof security to Chinese nationals as well as organisations working in the country. Calling it an attack on China-Pakistan cordial relations, the prime minister resolved that the government would not let bilateral ties be undermined through such acts. He said Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah would visit Karachi today (Wednesday) to assist the Sindh government in the investigation and extend all required cooperation to nab the culprits. Moreover, he said the government would review the security risks to Chinese nationals and take all possible measures to strengthen their security. “We will not allow any disturbance in this friendship, come what may. We will cut their hands and stop them from creating any differences,” he said.

The prime minister, in his remarks at the embassy, wrote, “We are deeply shocked and distressed at this dastardly attack. All Pakistanis mourn their loss and offer their condolences to the bereaved families.” He also reiterated the government’s commitment to eliminate all militants and terrorists from Pakistani soil. It may be mentioned here that right after the blast, the prime minister contacted Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah and got a briefing on the incident. He assured all-out support to the Sindh government to eradicate terrorism and expressed determination that with unity and collective efforts, they would hunt the terrorists down.
