Petition filed in LHC to stop Nawaz Sharif and Ishaq Dar’s live speech on TV

'Pemra breached its own directive by showing live speeches of Nawaz and Dar'

The Lahore High Court (LHC) was asked in the application by a civilian to give instructions to the relevant parties to suspend the live speech telecast of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Ishaq Dar.

The petitioner alleged that after the aforementioned individuals were found guilty by the courts, the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) banned live television broadcasts of their statements.

However, the petition said that it had been seen that Nawaz’s remarks were being broadcast by all TV stations including PTV after the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) assumed power.

The petitioner stated that Pemra should adhere to the judgments and directives it had made in order to prevent all TV networks from broadcasting the remarks of the PML-N leaders live.

He claimed that Pemra was breaching its own directives.

He asked the court to order the relevant authorities to stop the live broadcast of Nawaz and Dar’s addresses on TV.
