Photo exhibition at SALU draws attention to social issues

A one-day photo exhibition was organized by the Department of Media and Communication Studies of the Shah Abdul Latif University under the supervision of faculty member Farhan Ali Noonari on Thursday.

Faculty of Social Sciences Dean Prof. Dr. Taj Mohammad Lashari and Department of Media and Communication Studies Chairman Dr. Mujeeb-ur-Rehman Abro inaugurated the exhibition.

In the photo exhibition, pictures taken by students of media studies on various topics were displayed.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Dr. Taj Mohammad Lashari said that pictures taken by students were quite interesting.

The images included in the exhibition draw attention to complex issues that needed to be addressed in society.

In their artwork, the students highlighted issues such as environmental pollution, poverty, girls’ education, child labor and threats to wildlife, besides highlighting natural beauty and archaeological sites in Sukkur and Larkana regions to promote tourism.

Dr. Mujeeb-ur-Rehman Abro said that the purpose of the photo exhibition was to promote photojournalism.

He said that photojournalism was of great importance in the world. Assistant Professors Ahmed Ali Memon and Maria Issani appreciated the work of students. They said that Ilan’s photograph of a Syrian refugee child forced the international community to change its policies and European countries opened their borders to Syrian refugees afterwards.

Among others, the exhibition was attended by Prof. Dr. Agha Nadia, Prof. Amir. Khoro, Prof Amir Ali Chandio, Dr. Tahira Jutt, SALUTA President Dr. Ikhtiar Ali Ghamro, Dr. Hussamuddin Sheikh, Dr. Mumtaz Ali Sand and Ishrat Mirani along with teachers and hundreds of students from different departments.
