PM assures solution of gas load shedding during sehr & iftar in Karachi

As inflation-weary citizens have been raising concerns, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif promised the members of the National Assembly on Wednesday that his administration will solve the issue of gas load shedding during sehr and iftar.

In response to MNA Syed Agha Rafiullah’s point of order, the prime minister informed the chamber that he had previously taken note of the situation.

PM Shehbaz said that he has already called a meeting to examine the topic of gas load shedding later in the day. The prime minister pledged the parliament, “We will stop at nothing to remedy this situation.”

Earlier, a member of parliament from Karachi’s Malir neighborhood brought the house’s attention to the issue of gas load shedding that Karachi residents in particular endure during sehr and iftar.

He said that even though the matter had previously been brought to the attention of the prime minister, the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) needs to be given instructions to address it and ensure a continuous supply of gas during lunch and iftar.

In a decision that infuriated customers who complained about not having enough of this necessary fuel during mealtimes, the SSGC said last week that gas will be delivered to domestic consumers throughout the holy month of Ramadan, albeit for just a restricted number of hours.

Gas pressure will be low from 8 am to 2:30 pm, the company has warned, due to a 250 million mmbtu deficit. According to the SSGC hotline, gas would be accessible to Karachi customers for iftar from 2:30pm to 7pm and for sehr from 2:30am to 5am. Customers will experience total suspension or low pressure for the remaining hours, the gas provider stated.

However, the populace has been griping that gas was still prohibited during sehr and iftar, forcing them to spend money on expensive hotel and restaurant meals.
