The list will be sent to the President’s Secretariat for ratification when the PM’s Office accepts the candidates for both highly sought-after positions.

The process of a new army chief was expected to start today with the government hoping that President will not create any hurdles in the smooth process.

Earlier, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif stated that a key appointment will be made on Tuesday or Wednesday.

Asif further added, “The government cannot ignore the importance of the army in the system.”

As per media reports, the administration, its allies, and the military establishment were in agreement on the matter as the consultation procedure among the three parties had been completed.

Current COAS commander Qamar Javed Bajwa’s term is ending on Nov 29.

However, foreign minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari warned the president on Sunday that there would be grave repercussions if he created any opposition to the selection of a new army chief.
