PM Imran pays surprise visit to housing project

Prime Minister Imran Khan on Friday paid a surprise visit to a housing project in Islamabad.

After complaints of slow work performance in the project, the prime minister personally visited the under-construction apartments of a Naya Pakistan Housing Scheme in G-13 without any protocol.

Ministers and concerned officials were not told about his visit. Accompanied by Special Assistant to the Prime Minister for Political Communication Shahbaz Gill, the premier reached the site where he found the staff missing.

He reviewed the progress and asked the site manager about the absence of the staff. He instructed the authorities to complete the project early.

Launched in mid-2018, the Naya Pakistan Housing Scheme was an initiative intended to provide affordable residence at easy instalments to the working-class people who cannot afford their own houses. The project was also aimed to boost the construction sector. The site that the prime minister had visited was also a part of the Naya Pakistan Housing Scheme which is intended to give houses to around 2,000 people.

Earlier this month, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Mehmood Khan expressed dissatisfaction regarding the pace of work in the Naya Pakistan Housing Scheme. Calling it a flagship project of the government, he said Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf wants to speed up the process so that the working class can have houses.
