Prime Minister Imran Khan on Monday said he was confident of Federal Water Resources Minister Moonis Elahi and other Chaudhry family members.

During an address at an international symposium on hydropower development in Islamabad, the premier said that he himself had trained his government’s ministers so they would remain steadfast on the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) stance.

PM Khan said that the water resources minister had been performing his duty like a ‘Jihad’.

The prime minister said that the country was facing serious challenges as previous governments did not focus on constructing dams. He said the electricity prices would not have hiked up if the country had more dams in the past. Khan elaborated that China had nearly 5,000 dams while Pakistan only had two.

Earlier, Federal Water Resources Minister Moonis Elahi said that Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) would honour its alliance with the government.

Elahi said that the PTI government should not worry and that meeting political personalities was a normal thing and it was not the party’s norm to turn down their guests.

He echoed the premier’s comments regarding dams in the country, adding that he would table the Kala Bagh Dam proposal in parliament.
