The Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has met Kristalina Georgieva, managing director (MD) of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), during his visit to France.
Recalling his recent telephonic conversation on May 27, 2023, the Prime Minister briefed Kristalina Georgieva on Pakistan’s economic outlook.
The Prime Minister outlined the steps taken by the government for economic development and stability.
The Managing Director of the IMF briefed the Prime Minister about her organization’s perspective on the ongoing review process, the meeting provided a useful opportunity to review the progress made in this context.
Federal Minister for Climate Change Sherry Rehman, Minister for Economic Affairs Ayaz Sadiq, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb, Minister of State for Finance Ayesha Ghous Pasha and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Fatemi and Pakistan’s Ambassador to France Asim Iftikhar Ahmed attended the meeting.
The meeting was held on the site line of the International Conference.
During the meeting, discussions were held on the ongoing program of Pakistan IMF while cooperation between Pakistan and IMF was also discussed.
On this occasion, the Prime Minister said that all necessary steps have been completed for the IMF programme, and the government will fulfill the promises made with the IMF.
Shahbaz Sharif further said that it is expected that the IMF will soon release the funds allocated for Pakistan, the release of funds will help in the economic stability of the country and providing relief to the people.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reached Paris to attend the Global Summit at the invitation of the French President Emmanuel Macron.
The Prime Minister arrived in France on a three-day visit and was received at Paris airport by the Pakistani ambassador, top French officials and diplomatic officials.
The Prime Minister will attend the Global Summit scheduled in Paris.
The Prime Minister will attend the Global Financing Packet Summit, which is being attended by heads of state of more than 50 countries.
In a tweet after arriving in France, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that reforms in the global financial system had long been a demand of policymakers and world leaders.
The Prime Minister said, “New Global Financing Packet Summit to be held in France provides a unique opportunity in this regard, I will present Pakistan’s position on the restructuring of global financial institutions, Pakistan is an important party in the G77 Plus China Graving, the summit provides an opportunity for comprehensive reform in the global financial system.”
Shehbaz Sharif said That Pakistan is also among the countries most affected by climate change, and is in a position to present its position in a better way.
Prime Minister’s meetings expected during the visit
The Prime Minister will also attend a dinner hosted by French President Emmanuel Macron, and present the Framework forum on floods and natural disasters in Pakistan. He will also hold meetings with heads of various countries.
It should be noted that France is hosting the New Global Financing Package, which will be held on June 22 and 23.
At the end of his visit to France, the Prime Minister will go to London, where he will also meet Nawaz Sharif, in which the political situation of Pakistan will also be discussed.
