PM Shehbaz calls on PTI to abandon politics of sit-ins; work for betterment of country

The premier went on to ask PTI why it was holding protests when the government was working tirelessly to revive the economy

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday called on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf to abandon politics of sit-ins and work for the betterment of the country.

Addressing the workers of the Karot Hydropower Project, the premier said that he got “goosebumps” when he remembered the chaos resulting from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s 2014 sit-in during Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s government

He said that we should not waste time in dividing the nation and holding sit-ins.

PM Shehbaz Sharif’s comments came as PTI is marching towards Islamabad being led by chairman and former prime minister Imran Khan.

He observed that Chinese President Xi Jinping had to cancel his visit to Pakistan because of PTI’s sit-in in 2014. Resultantly, the Karot Hydropower Project was delayed a year-and-a-half.

The premier went on to ask PTI why it was holding protests when the government was working tirelessly to revive the economy that, he said, they had deteriorated in the previous three and half years. PM Shehbaz said that Khan had installed “land mines” for the next government by offering subsidies on oil prices.

He appealed to PTI to strive for the development of the country and cease the politics of sit-ins and disruption.

Hours prior to the premier’s speech, violence and chaos gripped Lahore while roads were blocked in other parts of the country because of PTI’s protests.

Despite the Supreme Court’s order for the government and PTI to reach reconciliation, no agreement has been made.
