PM Shehbaz directs to provide foolproof security for Imran Khan

Interior ministry says 94 policemen and FC deployed at PTI chairman’s Banigala residence

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has ordered relevant authorities on Monday to give foolproof security to former prime minister Imran Khan after the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chairperson repeatedly said that his life was in danger.

According to state media outlet Radio Pakistan, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah updated PM Shehbaz regarding security arrangements for Imran Khan. The premier instructed Sanaullah to provide the “best security” to the PTI chairman.

Separately, the Prime Minister’s Office said that parallel directives were also given to the provincial governments. “Moreover, a chief security officer has also been provided to [the] former prime minister on the directions of [the] PM,” it added.

According to a state media report, the interior ministry spokesperson in a statement confirmed that security arrangements for Imran Khan had been made.

It quoted the spokesperson as saying, that 94 police and Frontier Corps (FC) personnel had been deployed for this purpose. Thirty-five personnel from two security companies were also positioned to provide security to Imran Khan’s residence at Banigala.

Additionally, 36 officers of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police and six from Gilgit-Baltistan police had been deployed to provide security to the PTI chairman. The spokesperson added that four vehicles and 23 officers of Islamabad police and one vehicle and five personnel of the FC were deployed to accompany Imran Khan.
