PM Shehbaz, Imran denounce Quran desecration incident

Following Sweden’s approval of anti-Islamic rallies, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan strongly denounced the desecration of the Holy Quran outside the Turkish consulate.

The desecration of the Holy Quran in Sweden has drawn a stern condemnation from Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif who described it as an unforgivable action.

PM stated in a statement posted on Twitter that he vehemently condemns the horrific crime of desecrating the Holy Quran by a right-wing fanatic, calling it an abominable action for which words were insufficient.

He asserted that one and a half billion Muslims worldwide could not have their religious sensibilities wounded under the guise of free speech.

Former prime minister Imran Khan issued a statement condemning the burning of the Holy Quran yesterday during a demonstration in Sweden.

“As a consequence of the efforts made by our administration in March of last year the UN General Assembly passed a historic resolution on the International Day against Islamophobia that has the support of the OIC.” He said that this resolution acknowledged the lack of free speech protection for acts of hatred directed towards Muslims and the Islamic faith.

The terrible crime of the Holy Quran’s sacrilege in Sweden was vehemently denounced by Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Parvez Elahi as well.

Chairman of the Pakistan Ulema Council Hafiz Tahir Mahmood Ashrafi expressed his deep worry over the desecration of the Holy Quran in Sweden and urged the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the European Union and all other significant international organisations to speak out against it.

The promotion of Islamophobia has harmed the religious sensibilities of 1.5 billion Muslims, according to a statement from the Foreign Office.

The statement stated that human rights defenders must accept the duty of preventing hate crimes and not instigating violence.
