PM Shehbaz lauds Hamza for peaceful elections, Maryam for campaign

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has applauded the efforts of Punjab government under Chief Minister Hamza Shehbaz for peaceful by-elections.

In a tweet today, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif commended the efforts of the leaders and workers of for the Punjab by-polls.

He said that Mariam Nawaz had run an outstanding political campaign for PML-N.

He added that the government of Punjab under Chief Minister Hamza Shehbaz deserved to be congratulated for conducting peaceful elections.

The statement comes after the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf gave a setback to the PML-N in Punjab’s by-polls on Sunday, clinching 15 seats as opposed to PML-N’s four.

The by-elections were held after the disqualification of those PTI members who had voted for PML-N’s Hamza Shehbaz in the election of the provincial chief minister.

The results of the by-polls had shaken the PML-N and its supremo Nawaz Sharif had called an emergency party meeting from London to devise a future strategy in the wake of the results. Similarly, PTI Chairman Imran Khan had also convened the core committee meeting of his party tomorrow to discuss the strategy keeping in view the results of the Punjab by-polls.

The re-election for CM Punjab is scheduled on July 22, with PTI and Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid likely to form the government again.
