PM Shehbaz, President Alvi discuss governors’ appointment in first meeting

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a brief meeting with President Arif Alvi at Aiwan-e-Sadr today on Wednesday.

According to local media reports, the meeting went on for a mere 13-14 minutes.

The reports said that the premier discussed the appointment of governors for all four provinces. They added that the pair also touched upon various state affairs and matters regarding national security. The event marks the first meeting between PM Shehbaz Sharif and President Arif Alvi since the premier took office.

Previously, President Arif Alvi had excused himself from administering the oath to the newly elected prime minister after Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan was ousted from the premier’s office. Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani administered oath to Sharif and his cabinet instead so the government could run the country affairs smoothly.

The PML-N leaders have slammed the president for, what they said was, not performing his constitutional duties.

Earlier in the day, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz heavyweight Shahid Khaqan Abbasi suggested that President Alvi should work within his constitutional limits.
