PM vows to address all issues for rehabilitation of flood victims

Federal government provided Rs25,000 to each family, NDMA provided relief materials of Rs18 billion, PM

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has vowed to address all issues for the rehabilitation of the flood victims.

Addressing a meeting of flood victims in Khairpur PM Shahbaz Sharif said that in the last few months floods have wreaked havoc in Mehran Valley. He said that he has never seen the destruction of such floods in his life.

He said that the flood situation was indescribable, millions of acres of agricultural land came under water, crops were destroyed, and provincial governments along with federal institutions provided assistance in difficult times. He added that the federal government had poured its resources at the feet of the flood victims but the flood damage was huge so all resources were scarce.

The Prime Minister said that the federal government provided Rs25,000 to each family, NDMA provided relief materials worth Rs18 billion, the Sindh government has also spent billions of rupees and restoration works have been done to a great extent but the water was still standing in many areas.

Shahbaz Sharif said that even today eight million families were affected by water while 20 million people were eligible for assistance, nine million children were still affected by floods and as the winter season had started but people were sitting under the open sky.

Appreciating the friendly countries for their assistance to the flood victims the Prime Minister said that a lot of assistance came from European countries and Turkey, UAE, Qatar and other friendly countries also provided assistance.

Criticizing Imran Khan, the Prime Minister said that Imran sold a watch with Kaaba model. He said that if Imran would have sold gifts and handed them over to the poor then he [PM] would have appreciated them.
