PML-N, PPP bash Imran for ‘poisonous allegations’ about COAS’s appointment

The coalition government’s Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) have bashed Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan, terming his remarks about the new chief of army staff’s (COAS) appointment “poisonous allegations”.

During a rally on Sunday in Faisalabad, Imran Khan had said that in order to save themselves from the corruption cases, the PPP and PML-N wanted appointment of COAS according to their choice.

Imran Khan had also said that the army chief should be appointed on merit but the ruling parties wanted to bring their own army chief so that PPP and PML-N chiefs would not be asked about the “looted wealth”.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said that the “despicable utterances” of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan to malign the institutions were touching new levels every day.

In a tweet on Monday, the premier stated that Imran Khan was indulging in poisonous allegations against the armed forces and its leadership. He has also said that the “nefarious propaganda” was aimed at disrupting and undermining Pakistan.

PPP co-chairman and former president Asif Ali Zardari has also said that the whole nation was aware of the man spreading chaos, adding that everyone knew who the man was and who the beast was.

Former President has also stated in his tweet that Imran was determined to weaken the country but they would not let that happen. He also said that the government would not let the institutions and generals fall prey to Imran’s lust.

Zardari also said that only the federal government could be seen working for flood relief. He criticized the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab governments for not actively partaking in flood relief activities.

Planning and Development Minister Ahsan Iqbal also tweeted over the issue saying that the PTI Chairman was polluting the political space at a time when the country was suffering from the worst climate disaster, adding that putting blots on the army chief would cause more anarchy and chaos.

Minister for Climate Change and PPP leader Sherry Rehman has said that without realizing, Imran was spreading hatred against security agencies.

Former Finance Minister and PML-N’s leader Ishaq Dar has also tweeted over the issue, questioning whether Imran would decide which army chief was patriot and which was not?

Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has said that Imran Khan wanted to protect his political interests and continuity of his rule.
