Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif has said that if the General Elections 2023 were transparent like the Cantonment Board Elections, then his party under Nawaz Sharif’s leadership, would ‘politically bury the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI)’ forever.
Sharif made the fiery speech as he addressed a worker’s convention in Rawalpindi on Sunday and said the Cantonment elections were conducted freely and fairly, which toppled PTI’s stronghold in Rawalpindi and adjoining areas. He added that PML-N’s victory in the elections indicated that the ‘selected prime minister’ had lost popular support in areas where the party first rose to power.

The lawmaker also took the current government to task for the rising toils and troubles of the people, many of whom were dying as they couldn’t afford medical treatment. Sharif added that unemployment was rampant and inflation in prices of staple commodities like sugar, flour and petrol had severely burdened the citizens.
Sharif in recent days has been a vociferous critic of the PTI regime. On Friday, the PMLN stalwart noted the lack of governmental response to rising dengue cases in Punjab. Sharif tweeted that the government should follow the ‘guidelines and protocols’ in place to curb the breeding of the disease-causing mosquito.

The Cantonment Board Election results that were released on September 13, showed that PTI lost its seats in Rawalpindi and adjoining areas such as Chaklala. Seven out of nine wards in Rawalpindi went to PML-N. PTI faced similar losses in Multan, Lahore and Peshawar and was overall just five seats ahead of PML-N, which won a total of 59 wards.
