PML-N withdraws NCM against Elahi

The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) retracted its vote of no confidence against Chaudhry Parvez Elahi on Friday after he was de-notified as the chief minister of Punjab.

According to PML-N MPA Khalil Tahir Sindhu, Elahi was already removed from the position of chief executive after failing to obtain a vote of confidence from the legislature as instructed by Governor Balighur Rehman.

No-confidence motions against the speaker of the Punjab Assembly Sibtain Khan and the deputy speaker, he claimed, had not been withdrawn.

Elahi petitioned the Lahore High Court (LHC) earlier on Friday in opposition to governor Balighur Rehman’s order denotifying him as the chief minister.

According to the petition, Rehman’s orders for the de-notification and the vote of confidence were both passed “without legitimate authority and have no legal effect.”

It claimed that the Punjab Provincial Assembly of 1997’s Constitution and Rules of Procedure made the governor’s decree calling for a PA session unlawful.
