PMO’s audio leaks: Imran demands CEC’s resignation, says new episodes to come

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan has again demanded that Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja should resign.

Addressing a gathering at Government College University (GCU) Lahore, he said that after audio leaks of key figures of the coalition government have surfaced, the CEC should resign from his post because the leaks have made it apparent that Sikandar Sultan Raja was a servant of the Sharif household.

Former prime minister also said that upon the instructions of Nawaz Sharif and Asif Ali Zardari, CEC had blocked the use of electronic voting machines (EVMs).

Imran also criticized the alleged audio leak of a conversation between the PM and an unidentified official talking about the import of machinery for power plant from India for Mariam Nawaz’s son-in-law. He said that his government had ended trade with India after Kashmir’s special status was revoked by New Delhi in August 2019.

Talking about the coming episodes of audio leaks, the PTI chairman said that he had heard of an audio in which Maryam tells her father [Nawaz Sharif] that the CEC has said that he would disqualify Imran in Toshakhana case.

Maryam Nawaz has said in a tweet after Imran’s comments that strict action should be taken against the GCU vice chancellor for “desecrating an educational institution by lending it to a fitna and organizing his jalsa on the premises”, further adding, “Using a seat of learning for political hate-mongering is a crime that should not go unpunished.”
