PM’s Special Assistant Irfan Qadir resigns

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has accepted the resignation of Special Assistant on Accountability and Interior Irfan Qadir.

A formal notification had also been issued accepting the resignation of Irfan Qadir as special assistant to the prime minister.

As per media reports, on Wednesday morning, Irfan Qadir entered the courtroom to represent the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) as the Supreme Court resumed hearing the matter over the postponement of the elections. Chief Judge Umar Ata Bandial responded to his introduction by saying, “You can’t represent ECP.”

Irfan Qadir was alarmed by the CJP’s remark and inquired as to if the ECP would now seek permission from the SC to select a lawyer, adding that if the bench wasn’t prepared to hear him, he would prefer to go. Irfan Qadir then exited the courtroom.

Irfan Qadir submitted his resignation soon after this SC incident.

It may be recalled that a few days ago Attorney General Barrister Shahzad Elahi also resigned from his post, which was accepted by the President of Pakistan.
