Police present Fawad Chaudhry before Lahore court

PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry was hauled to the Cantt court in Lahore under heavy security following his arrest outside his home on suspicion of sedition on Wednesday.

The brother of a formal federal minister told local media earlier on Wednesday that he was “taken away” at about 5:30 am in four cars. The location of Fawad was unknown to the family, according to Faisal Chaudhry.

He added, “We are also not given any information on the FIR (first information report) made against him. Faisal referred to his brother’s arrest as “illegal” and stated that he will pursue legal action.

Police and members of the Punjab Counter Terrorism Department brought Fawad before the court.

PTI lawyers welcomed Fawad and showered him with rose petals.

The investigating officer asked the judge to grant Islamabad police the PTI leader’s transit remand as the session got underway.

Fawad requested a copy of the FIR filed against him from the judge on his behalf. He continued by saying he was proud of the accusations made against him. Nelson Mandela was detained on such allegations as well.

“It is alleged that I engaged in sedition […] I should be treated with respect because I am a former Supreme Court attorney and federal minister,” he told the court.

The PTI leader criticized the arresting procedure as “inappropriate.” “I would have come personally if they had called,” he said.
