President Alvi advises Imran Khan to publicly denounce May 9 incidents

President Dr. Arif Alvi has said that former prime minister Imran Khan should publicly denounce the May 9 incidents, which saw attacks on government buildings and military sites.

The president, a close ally of the PTI Chairman, demanded that the criminals responsible for the incidents be brought to justice.

PTI leadership, which includes the party chairman, has denounced the assaults in which the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi was also a target and demanded an investigation into the incidents by the Supreme Court.

Following Khan’s arrest in the Al-Qadir Trust case, which resulted in at least 10 fatalities and several injuries, violent demonstrations broke out, forcing the government to detain thousands of PTI protestors.

The Pakistan Army Act, the Official Secrets Act, and other laws would be used in the prosecution of the vandals who attacked army installations, according to both the military and the government.

The president further said in the interview that the suspects’ human rights should be upheld and that they should not be subjected to torture throughout the proceedings. “The individuals involved should face legal repercussions,” he added.

President Alvi said that Imran Khan had not opposed the appointment of Army Chief General Asim Munir.
