President Alvi requests CJ for judicial commission into regime change conspiracy

President it is duty of institutions to help ‘avert damaging consequences’ to country

President Dr. Arif Alvi on Thursday wrote a letter to Chief Justice of Pakistan Umar Ata Bandial, asking him to create a judicial commission to probe the “regime change conspiracy”, which former prime minister Imran Khan alleges was the cause of his ouster from the top office.

The letter from the president comes less than two weeks after Imran wrote a similar letter to the president and CJ Bandial. He called on the two officials to conduct a public inquiry as well as to form a judicial commission to probe the “threat letter”.

In his letter today, Dr. Alvi recommended to the CJP that the judicial commission should ideally be headed by him and must conduct open hearings. He said the commission would “thoroughly probe the allegations of regime change conspiracy to avert a political and economic crisis in the country”.

The president said the world had witnessed countless examples of “regime change” where operations were conducted via conspiracies. He added that such plots were later established by the release of top-secret documents.

The president went on to warn that a grave political crisis was approaching in Pakistan, adding that polarization was also taking place in politics as well as among the people. He stressed that it was the duty of all institutions to do everything in their power to avert damaging consequences to the country.
