President Arif Alvi has signed the summary for the appointment of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and the Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC).
According to the media reports, the process of the appointment of new COAS and CJCSC has been completed. New Army Chief will take responsibility on November 29 after the retirement of current Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa.
Lt. General Asim Munir has been appointed the COAS while Lt. General Sahir Shamshad Mirza has been appointed the CJCSC.
President Alvi had earlier travelled to Lahore for consultation with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan over the matter of the appointments.
President Alvi reached Islamabad and signed the summary that was sent to him by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in the early hours of Thursday.
PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry after the meeting and speaking to the media said that the president will issue an order over the issue shortly.
