Medical students of three different colleges of Balochistan have completed forty-six days of their consecutive sit-in outside Quetta Press Club in Quetta today (Jan 22).

The Medical Students Alliance has decried the government and Health Department for their negligence towards the protesting medical students of Balochistan, who have been camping out in cold weather for one and a half month. The alliance said in their statement that the students were protesting constitutionally for their rights but were receiving “no response from the Balochistan government” and Health Department [other than a call to listen to their grievances once in the CM house].

They said that medicine was a rare profession in the province “but the irresponsible attitude of the government and the newly established Pakistan Medical Commission (PMC) was tantamount to playing with the careers of the medical students”. The alliance said that it was never the choice of the students to come on roads and protest, instead, they wanted to be in their classes. “But how can we study when we are threatened with a ‘biased test’ announced by the department?” members of the alliance have asked. The alliance also expressed dissatisfaction with the approach of the opposition towards solving their issue.

At the end of its statement, the alliance said that if any of the students took a bold decision – indicating suicide – the government of Balochistan, the provincial health department and Pakistan Medical Commission would be directly responsible.
