PSCA launches crackdown to enforce zero-tolerance policy against fake & tampered number plates

Punjab Safe Cities Authority is actively enforcing its zero-tolerance policy against fake and tampered number plates. The crackdown on vehicles with fake and altered number plates has been further intensified through Safe City’s advanced AI-based surveillance cameras system.

According to the PSCA’s spokesperson, more than 52 vehicles bearing fake or tampered number plates were detected and taken into action over the past week, with cases registered against the violators. As soon as any suspicious number plate is identified through Safe City cameras, an automated alert is immediately generated. Upon receiving the alert, Virtual Patrolling Officers take prompt action, inform the nearest police units in real time, and assist in tracing and apprehending suspicious vehicle through the latest application.

The spokesperson further clarified that use of fake number plates is being strictly dealt with under Section 420 of the Pakistan Penal Code and the Motor Vehicle Ordinance, with FIRs being registered accordingly. Tampering with number plates is not at all an appropriate method to avoid e-challan; rather, it amounts to committing a serious legal violation and may result in the registration of a criminal case.

The PSCA’s spokesperson has warned citizens that number plate tampering is a serious offense, and strict legal action is being taken against those involved. He further added that Punjab Safe Cities Authority remains fully committed to ensuring strict compliance with traffic laws and continues to effectively utilize modern technology to safeguard citizens life and property in the province.
